OMIA:000177-9615 : Cerebellar cortical atrophy in Canis lupus familiaris (dog)

In other species: domestic cat , taurine cattle , sheep

Categories: Nervous system phene

Links to MONDO diseases: No links.

Mendelian trait/disorder: yes

Mode of inheritance: Autosomal recessive

Considered a defect: yes

Key variant known: no

Cross-species summary: Wasting (decrease) of the outer layer of the grey matter of the cerebellum (the part of the brain situated behind the two hemispheres and above the pons and medulla oblongata).

Inheritance: Olby et a. (2004) provided reasonable evidence supporting autosomal recessive inheritance in a family of American Staffordshire Terriers. A likely disease causing mutation has been identified in this breed - see 'lysosomal storage disease, ARSG related' (OMIA001503-9615) for further details.

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing
