OMIA:001226-9913 : Polymelia in Bos taurus (taurine cattle)

In other species: chicken , dog , sheep , Swainson's hawk

Categories: Limbs / fins / digit / tail phene

Links to MONDO diseases: No links.

Mendelian trait/disorder: unknown

Considered a defect: yes

Key variant is published: no

Cross-species summary: Supernumerary limbs.

Species-specific description: Angus calves with polymelia (Denholm and Martin, 2011) were the first signs and are still a major component of a disorder now called Developmental Duplications (DD); see OMIA 002103-9913.

Mapping: Neupane et al. (2017) conducted a GWAS on Friesians that identified candidate regions on chromosomes BTA10 and BTA13, which indicate that this disorder in Friesians is genetically different from Developmental Duplications (DD; see OMIA 002103-9913) in Angus, for which polymelia is one component, but which maps to the NHLRC2 locus on chromosome BTA26.

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing
