OMIA:001894-9796 : Cervical vertebral compressive myelopathy in Equus caballus (horse)

In other species: dog , mountain zebra , sheep

Categories: Nervous system phene

Links to MONDO diseases: No links.

Mendelian trait/disorder: unknown

Considered a defect: yes

Cross-species summary: Also known as hereditary ataxia

Species-specific name: Cervical vertebral malformation and malarticulation; cervical vertebral stenotic myelopathy; cervical stenotic myelopathy; “wobbler’s” syndrome; wobbler; wobbling; wobbles

Inheritance: From the results of an extensive pedigree analysis of 121 cases in US Thoroughbreds, Dymock (1950) reported that "the evidence suggests the recessive nature of the defect" but was careful to note exceptions to single-locus inheritance. He concluded that "The complete genetic interpretation must await further observation and research." Falco et al. (1976) reported "no evidence of a genetic basis was found" in UK Thoroughbreds.

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing
