OMIA:000832-9913 : Progressive spinal myelopathy in Bos taurus (taurine cattle)

Categories: Nervous system phene

Mendelian trait/disorder: unknown

Disease-related: yes

History: Richards and Edwards (1986): "Ataxia of the hind limbs in nine calves was associated with degenerative lesions in spinal white matter and neuronal chromatolysis in red nucleus, spinal grey matter and various nuclei of the medulla oblongata and cerebellum. The clinical signs and lesions ... occurred predominantly in calves of the Murray Grey breed." Edwards et al. (1988): "From analysis of pedigrees and the results of the breeding experiment it was concluded that the condition was inherited as an autosomal recessive condition in Murray Grey cattle."

Breed: Murray Grey (Cattle) (VBO_0000312).
Breeds in which the phene has been documented. (If a likely causal variant has been documented for the phene, see the variant table breeds in which the variant has been reported).
