OMIA:001279-9823 : Hypotrichosis, recessive in Sus scrofa (pig)

In other species: dog

Categories: Integument (skin) phene

Links to possible relevant human trait(s) and/or gene(s) in OMIM: 607591 (gene)

Mendelian trait/disorder: yes

Mode of inheritance: Autosomal recessive

Disease-related: yes

Key variant known: no

Cross-species summary: Recessive form of lack of hair growth

Inheritance: Roberts and Carroll (1931) provided convincing evidence of autosomal recessive inheritance of hairlessness. It seems very likely that the causative mutation is at a different locus from that which gives rise to "Hypotrichosis, dominant" (MIA 001278) in pigs. However, breeding trials to test non-allelism have not been reported.
