Categories: Endocrine / exocrine gland phene (incl mammary gland)

Mendelian trait/disorder: yes

Disease-related: no

Key variant known: no

Year key variant first reported: 2023

Species-specific description: Cosenza et al. (2023) "report the whole nucleotide sequence of the BLG I [LOC106829109] gene from 2 donkeys, whose milk samples are characterized by the β-LG I [beta lactoglobulin] SDS-PAGE band with a normal electrophoretic mobility ..., and by the presence of a unique β-LG I band with a higher electrophoretic mobility ... . A high genetic variability was found all over the 2 sequenced BLG I alleles." Based on their sequencing results and publicly available information the authors "deduce at least 5 different alleles (BLG I A, B, B1, C, D) responsible for 4 potential β-LG I translations." PAEP is the HGNC approved gene symbol for beta-lactglobulin (BLG).
