In other species: axolotl

Categories: Pigmentation phene , Integument (skin) phene

Links to possible relevant human trait(s) and/or gene(s) in OMIM: 115501 (gene) , 612271 (trait)

Mendelian trait/disorder: unknown

Disease-related: no

Molecular basis: Sun et al. (2024) " studied adjacent populations of the species of toad-headed agama, Phrynocephalus putjatai, distributed in two distinct habitats on Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) - alpine meadows and sand dunes - with two distinct phenotypes (dark vs. light) in dorsal coloration. ... by genome resequencing analysis, we detected a novel mutation in Tyrp1 that underpinned this color adaptation. The allele frequencies at the site of SNP 459# in the gene of Tyrp1 are 22.22% G/C and 77.78% C/C in dark lizards and 100% G/G in light lizards."
