Comment: Selective-sweep analyses of whole-genome resequencing data from tens of pigs of a wide range of breeds by Rubin et al. (2012) identified a strong signature of selection in a region of chromosome SSC4 that includes a QTL for body length (at 82.56-82.71Mb), first reported by Andersson et al. (1994) and Andersson-Eklund et al. (1998) and which includes the PLAG1 gene. Rubin et al. (2012) confirmed PLAG1 as a QTL for body length by showing a "combined effect of 5.3 cm in body length difference between the opposite homozygotes" for PLAG1 and for another gene showing strong signs of a selective sweep, namely LCORL, in the F2 generation of their Large White X Wild boar QTL resource population.
