OMIA:000608-9031 : Loco, congenital in Gallus gallus (chicken) |
In other species: turkey , Japanese quail
Categories: Behaviour / neurological phene
Links to MONDO diseases: No links.
Mendelian trait/disorder: yes
Mode of inheritance: Autosomal recessive lethal
Considered a defect: yes
Key variant known: no
Cross-species summary: The main symptom is an apparent lack of control of the muscles of the neck of the chick, resulting in the inability to stand or eat normally
Species-specific symbol: lo
Inheritance: Knowlton (1929) provided evidence of autosomal recessive inheritance.
Mapping: Okumura et al. (2013) conducted a genome scan with 122 informative miccrosatellites on 88 Rhode Island Red chickens from several generations of families segregation for this disorder. Linkage analysis highlighted just one region near microsatellite MCW0332 on chromosome GGA12. Subsequent homozygosity mapping narrowed the region "to approximately 1.1 Mb, between GGA12_28 and GGA12_30", which contains at least 10 genes.
Breed:
Rhode Island Red (Chicken) (VBO_0000599).
Breeds in which the phene has been documented. For breeds in which a likely causal variant has been documented, see the variant table below
