OMIA:001191-9615 : Hemivertebrae in Canis lupus familiaris (dog)

In other species: taurine cattle , goat

Categories: Skeleton phene (incl. short stature & teeth)

Possibly relevant human trait(s) and/or gene(s) (MIM number): 207620 (trait)

Links to MONDO diseases: No links.

Mendelian trait/disorder: no

Mode of inheritance: Multifactorial

Considered a defect: yes

Key variant known: no

Inheritance: As reported by Schlensker and Distl (2015), "Heritability estimates for the number and grade of hemivertebrae were 0.58 and 0.53, respectively. The number of coccygeal vertebrae showed a heritability estimate of 0.35. In addition, the number of coccygeal vertebrae was negatively correlated with the number and grade of hemivertebrae. The prevalence of hemivertebrae could increase if dogs with shorter tails are preferentially selected for breeding purposes."

Genetic engineering: Unknown
Have human generated variants been created, e.g. through genetic engineering and gene editing
