Inheritance: Schachler et al. (2020) reported that "analysis of two matings of Mangalitza with straight-coated pig breeds confirmed an autosomal dominant inheritance of curly hair" and that "These results contrast with previous predictions from crossings of Mangalitza with Cornwall, Middle White and Large White, which suggested an intermediary hair type for F1-piglets". The actual mode of inheritance, therefore, within the Mangalitza breed, and in other breeds, still remains to be determined.

Markers: Schachler et al. (2020) "suggest that more than one variant is causative for the specific hair type of Mangalitza pigs."
