OMIA:002674-9823 : sterile, NANOS3-related in Sus scrofa (pig) |
Possibly relevant human trait(s) and/or gene(s) (MIM number): 608229 (gene)
Links to MONDO diseases: No links.
Mendelian trait/disorder: yes
Considered a defect: yes
Key variant known: no
Species-specific description: Wang et al. (2023) created NANOS3 knockout pigs by somatic cell nuclear transfer and "found that Nanos3 knockout specifically and completely disrupted the development of early germ cells in males and females, and that these cells cannot proceed to become functional sperm and oocytes. ... [The authors] discovered that constitutive Nanos3 knockout specifically blocked germ cell development, but did not alter the overall development, growth and survival of Nanos3−/− pigs." This study involves genetically modified organisms (GMO).
