Comment: Selective-sweep analyses of whole-genome resequencing data from tens of pigs of a wide range of breeds by Rubin et al. (2012) identified a strong signature of selection in a region of chromosome SSC8 that includes a QTL for body length (at 12.61-12.76Mb), first reported by Andersson et al. (1994) and Andersson-Eklund et al. (1998) and which includes the LCORL gene. Rubin et al. (2012) confirmed LCORL as a QTL for body length by showing a "combined effect of 5.3 cm in body length difference between the opposite homozygotes" for LCORL and for another gene showing strong signs of a selective sweep, namely PLAG1, in the F2 generation of their Large White X Wild boar QTL resource population.
