Inheritance: The resemblance of this disorder to human haemochromatosis (see MIM entries above) leads to the expectation that this disorder in cattle is also inherited. O'Toole et al. (2001) provided supporting evidence for autosomal recessive inheritance from a test mating, but concluded "It was not possible to establish the pattern of inheritance because of the small number of pedigrees from affected cattle"
