OMIA 000428-9913 : Haemochromatosis in Bos taurus

In other species: horse , red deer , black rhinoceros , Sumatran rhinoceros , white-tufted-ear marmoset , Ring-tailed lemur , Lesser dwarf lemur , hill myna

Category: Homeostasis / metabolism phene

Possibly relevant human trait(s) and/or gene(s)s (MIM numbers): 231100 (trait) , 235200 (trait)

Links to MONDO diseases: No links.

Mendelian trait/disorder: unknown

Considered a defect: yes

Inheritance: The resemblance of this disorder to human haemochromatosis (see MIM entries above) leads to the expectation that this disorder in cattle is also inherited. O'Toole et al. (2001) provided supporting evidence for autosomal recessive inheritance from a test mating, but concluded "It was not possible to establish the pattern of inheritance because of the small number of pedigrees from affected cattle"
